I can't sync my iPod!

In iTunes, my iPod device won’t show up on the left hand side. When I plug it in, it just charges but won’t connect to iTunes or sync. Help!

Got Something to say?

Call apple tech support.

S i l h o u e t t e on 17 Nov 2007

it used to work, but suddenley it doesn’t…

Isaiah on 21 Nov 2007

yeah… just call them up.

Or… did you put anything else on your iPod that shouldn’t really be on there according to the law? Because I think that if there’s something on your iPod that isn’t from YOUR computer… it might be messing things up.

ahh thats happend to me :(:( HEEEEEEEELP!! x

j. on 19 Jan 2008

omg it’s happening to me too.

jack on 3 Mar 2008

what is happening is, that if you have illegally downloaded some songs or put on some photos through the “copy and paste” method they are causing a problem and need to be deleted, then it will work.

your welcome.

Vera on 4 Mar 2008

This is because your iPod iTunes is not responding to your iPod. To fix this, you need to reset your iPod. Don’t worry, it won’t erase anything. Just hold the Menu and middle button for about six seconds until the Apple logo appears. After that, wait and your iPod should respond to your ccomputer again.

Hope this helps!

I have same problem. I tried to reset it, it still will only charge. I don’t have any options except library in itunes and most things are grayed out. I can’t take my photos off because there’s no photos showing on itunes. please help.

itunes is stupid. and i hate my ipod. no point if i cant put any new music on it.

La Dayna on 26 May 2008

ok i felt stupid after this but if your ipod isnt letting you sync music to it click on your ipod the go to the summary look where it says options and make sure you have the box checked that says manually manage music and videos. sorry ciara this doesnt apply to you i dont know what to tell you about that wish i could help.

melbune on 28 May 2008

my ipod say ipod cannot be syced be the playlist thing does not exist

The Dude on 30 May 2008

Click on “Start” and right click on “My Computer” Click on the fourth option, it should say, “Manage” A pop up should appear and click on “Device Manager” (Its located on the left-hand side of the screen) If you scroll down near the bottom of the list and notice that their is an “!” next to the iPod then that means that their something wrong with the connection.

If their is then right click on iPod and it will install the iPod into your computer

precious on 30 May 2008

OK!!! I was about to lose my mind because the 80gb ipod my hubby bought me last xmas was goin crazy on me. It would disconnect itself and not stay on long enough to even show on my new pc, even though it was still showing on the ipod itself that it was charging?!. i tried disconnecting and reconnecting manually about 1000 times NOTHIN”!!! i would get msgs about corruption and device not found/recognized but I FIXED IT!!!! (I dont know for how long but it works!!!) I read so many of these forums but they all said restore but I couldnt connect long enough…one thread said “PRESS MENU AND MIDDLE BUTTONS ABOUT 10 SECS UNTIL APPLE PIC SHOWS ON IPOD THEN PRESS AND HOLD FORWARD AND PREVIOUS BUTTONS FOR ABOUT 10-15 SECS. (they called it “hard reset”) and now it suddenly works, ipod shows up and was recognized and syncing!!!!! YAY!!!

Rae 3 days ago

To begin with, ensure iTunes is not running, and your iPod is not connected. Make sure you read through the following steps before your begin.

  1. Run “c:\WINDOWS\system32\devmgmt.msc” (this is the Device Manager), this will need to be used later, but you’ll need it quickly when you do.
  2. Start iTunes
  3. Connect iPod
  4. Go to your iPod Settings and select “Enable disk use”
  5. A dialog box will pop up reminding you that you’ll need to manually eject. Hit OK
  6. Hit Apply to save changes to the iPod
  7. Quickly switch to Device Manager window and right-click on any item there and select “Scan for hardware changes”
  8. Switch back to iTunes, where you should have a nice, working iPod!

Hope this helps everyone, please post you results

I would like people not to swear when they post. There are lots of frustrating things about ipods but people are upset enough about the potential loss of music and time… So , hey, let’s be nicer to each other. I think the i in Ipod stands for irritating, inexplicable and intimidating. Peace to all.. Bronco
