The Simpsons lost their edge ages ago. The Family Guy rules.

Wow, this was a tough call… been a long-time Simpsons fan, but I have to say, Family Guy has a certain edge that gets me laughing more lately.

Simpsons hasn’t been as edgy as it used to be for several seasons now.

Family Guy still manages to drop a couple bombs every episode.

Simpson’s will forever be in my heart and it is the smarter of the two but Family Guy is absurd and wrong and hilarious. In it’s prime, Simpson’s would probably be my choice but right now its Family Guy.

This is SOOOO tough I’ve written opinions on both sides now and hit ‘delete’ twice. But FG has a better future, the Simpsons has a better past.

I prefer watching all series in syndication though, I’m just weird that way. I get the topical stuff a year late. Sometimes I discover things after they are cancelled, but when they’re good they’re on every day.

If you are upset with the Family Guy because of the sex, it’s probably because you aren’t having any. Stupid virgins.

Cruder jokes. More funny. Newer. It has everything going for it.

THe question is do like better. Not did like better. That said I do like Family Guy better. I did like the Simpsons more than I like Familiy Guy, but lets all be honest the Simpsons are a little soft in the middle lately.

The intelligent writing that made The Simpsons what it was is no more. The jokes on Family Guy go where The Simpsons would no longer dare.

Simpson’s jumped the shark a few seasons ago. Family guy is still funny. The end. :)

The Simpsons have been around forever, kudos. But I feel that puts Family Guy at an advantage. They have to come up with stuff the Simpsons haven’t done already.

Plus, the Simpsons seems to get boring to me, rather fast. The fast-paced humor of Family Guy is superior, in my opinion.

But that is just one man’s opinion.

The Simpsons is one of the best shows ever to have been made, and the world is a better place because of it. But Family Guy is 100% happiness for me, like a blow job for the soul.

The Simpsons just isn’t that funny anymore. Family Guy, on the other hand, continues to be hilarious.

The Family Guy is, hands down, the best animated series ever. I would have say that anyone who does not agree is just too “slow” to get it.

I used to love Simpsons for years, and it was only a while back that I discovered Family Guy (I knew about it, but never saw it at that time).

I have to say that for now I enjoy them both, although I have to admit that I enjoy Family Guy alot more - The Simpsons has given birth to so many episodes, and it’s starting to feel far more dull over the years.

The new Simpsons episodes suck. The jokes are so stupid and childish that it could only appeal to the younger audience. The Simpsons was truly a very funny show a very long time ago but now it’s so pathetically idiotic when I watch the new episodes I cringe at every corny joke and end up changing the channel. It sure was good in the past while Conan O’Brian was still writing them but when he stopped it slowly started to get worse and worse with a few good episodes from time to time until now where it’s lost all its greatness which it once had. In my opinion, the new Simpsons can’t even compare to recent Family Guy episodes. Though, the older episodes still beat Family Guy anyday. Family Guy actually makes me lol which the new Simpsons episodes can never do.

I love Family Guy. I don’t think there is any other animated show out there that makes me laugh so much. It’s true that The Simpsons has lost it’s edge, which I think is a real shame. I mean sure Family Guy is hot now but they only make refrences to main-stream culture while the Simpsons atually influenced it. Twenty years ago if you were to use the fraises “Do’h!” or “Ai karumba!” people would think you were nuts. I’m affraid if The Simpsons don’t get back their classic sense of humar soon it will be cancelled, and thats no way for America’s favourite family for seventeen years to go.

Family Guy’s constant “flashback”-esque things and random references to stuff that the characters did make you want to keep watching through the whole thing. Family Guy has so many options open to it right now, and it even progresses through time- like with Peter getting new jobs and such.

The Simpsons on the other hand is old and boring, you could miss the 15 minutes in the middle of an episode and still gain an understanding of the overall plot of the ep. As far as I’m concerned, there aren’t any actual ‘jokes’ left in the Simpsons any more. They’ve exhausted every possible scenario for a “dysfunctional family”, every side story for the townspeople, sometimes 2 or 3 times over. Plus they have to stick with everything that’s happened in the past so there’s no goofs, yet they never progress through time. Maggie should be at least 18 now. I must admit, up to Season 7 it was good. After that it just became crap.

I am a complete family guy fan. I have also seen ‘The Simpsons’ on TV once. Not even ONE laugh. By the time i have heard of the FOX hit TV show ‘Family Guy’, i was looking forward to watching it. When the episode ‘E. Peterbus Enum’ was shown, it got minimum 23 laughs out of me. I was litteraly on the floor, laughing untill my ribs hurt. One day I went to the store and saw the family guy first, second, third, and fourth pack on DVD, i immediatly purchased the entire collection. As soon as I got home, i played about 7 family episodes on my DVD player. All it was was me cracking up at every corner of the episode’s plot. Then I started a comparison: family guy or simspons. My answer: family guy. Family guy has a more organized plot and more life-like. Then i reviewed the simpsons episeodes i have recently watched. Family guy is way more mature then simpsons. Simpsons has swearing and what not, but simpsons still seems that it was more made for kids. Family guy deserves it rating: 12 and up

Simpsons have definately ran out of ideas. They could do what the Japanese do with Anime :) when it goes on for a long time. You make the characters grow up. So they could now have a teenaged bart, and a college Lisa. That would open up a whole new can of worms! :)

The Simpsons used to be the best thing on TV. There used to be nothing better than coming home from school on a friday and seeing a double new episode at 6.00pm on BBC2! Ahhh the joys of season 7/8/9! However, The Simpsons, although it has its magic modern moments, like the time when Homer took medicinal marajuana, cannot compare to the consistency of funnyness that Family Guy has. Maybe it’s because I’ve matured, or probably it’s just that The Simpsons writers have run out of ideas (as the show has been on for so long). Family Guy, compared to the Simpsons, is brand new (having only been around since 1999). They have new ideas, and although there are blatant plagerised gags, The Simpsons aren’t exactly 100% original (The Flintstones or The Jetsons mean anything to anyone?) The brilliance of Family Guy is that because of iys older target audience, more un-PC or obscene characters (such as Quagmire, Herbert or the Greased Up Deaf Guy) can be used with little or no non-comical reproductions.

Still solid and consistent after 5 seasons. However, the two shows are vastly different. At least Family Guy “goes there”. Case in point: How can you not admire a show where a pedophile can get the biggest laugh (the old man with the walker who speaks with a whistle and is always after Chris)? Not to mention Stewie (bows down in deference). Even South Park has managed to stay consistently funny and not to mention, topical after 10 + years. The Simpson is the absolutely best animated TV-show in the world. It’s wonderfull. You can never, ever get tired of the simpsons. And it’s absolutely not too old, and will never be…

The Simpsons sucks now—this much is true. However, it established a high (high!) comedic watermark that The Family Guy doesn’t even come close to reaching. A given Simpsons rerun from its golden age would beat any Family Guy episode from today, hands down. Next question.

Family Guy is just rounchy to be rounchy. The Simpsons defined a generation and made us look at ourselves and our culture in a way no other show could. Besides, if it wasn’t for The Simpsons, there wouldn’t be Family Guy.

Family Guy as a whole is far more inconsistent than The Simpsons in the last few years.

Take everything crap about the Simpsons for the past half decade, throw in a few obviously crude sexual jokes and you have Family Guy.

It’s not about the ‘edge’, it’s about the laughs. I laugh out loud more frequently at The Simpsons than I do at Family Guy.

The Simpsons! Some of the old shows are so funny and intelligent on so many levels, that watermark has to be met and superseded , and that for a looong time, in order to be considered a true rival to the Simpsons. They have seen competitors come and go.

Simpsons was fantastic before Family Guy aired. It was still fantastic when the show was cancelled. It was fantastic when it was started up again. And the Simpsons will be funny when Family Guy is Cancelled, Part II comes out.

I find myself referencing the Simpsons more… Family Guy is still funny… but they make sure you got the joke… and keep making sure you get the joke. A little much at times. Simpsons still keep that subtle art of humor.

Family Guy has its moments, but is often times just plain nasty for the sake of being nasty — like South Park. No real humor or wit behind it.

Family Guy is only funnier if you’re not intelligent enough to understand the jokes from The Simpsons.

They try to make it intellectual-sounding at times. That’s a plus.

It’s true that The Simpsons lost its edge several years ago. It’s sad to me that there are still new episodes coming out because I feel with each new season the show tarnishes the reputation it built as being the most successful animated teleivision show in history.

The Family Guy is a terriffic show in its own right, but at the heart of the matter it is just The Simpsons with more outrageous humor and much less heart. The Simpsons at its height (think season 7 or so) will forever be better than The Family Guy because the comedy was more clever and the episodes had actual meat to them.

If I had to watch a brand new episode of one right now, it would be Family Guy, but if I had to bring one DVD collection on a deserted island, it would be Simpsons by a mile.

Family Guy is funny, but is mainly the Simpsons retooled for fratboys rather than families. The Simpsons may have lost its edge over the years, but in total, it is better entertainment. Without The Simpsons, Family Guy could probably not exist, but without Family Guy, The Simpsons continues to exist. The Simpsons broke a lot of ground, passed through the hands of many talented writers and directors, and gave me something to look forward to than probably any other show on television.

Family guy moves at a different pace than the Simpsons. Don’t count me out, I am an avid Family Guy fan and stood by as Adult Swim nurtured the show back to prime time. I’ll stick with the Simpsons just to piss off my mother and respect to Phil Hartmann…

Although the new episodes are terrible, the middle seasons defined our generation. They brought every type of comedy together and made us laugh. Subtle jokes, smart jokes, current event jokes and even some stupid lowbrow humor. Family Guy, while OK, just focuses on lowbrow humor. They just try and be conterversial.

Also, I think it’s funny that most Family Guy supporters are saying stupid one liners like “simpsons suc!111” while Simpsons supporters actually type real reasons why they took the Simpsons side.

The Simpsons is, quite simply, one of the greatest show of all time, if not the greatest. It destroys Family Guy in terms of universal appeal- sure, Family Guy has the college-age market cornered right now, but the Simpsons is a show beloved by people of all ages. There’s a reason why professional critics dismiss Family Guy casually (I am a fan, mind you) while philosophy books are being written about the Simpsons. That, and the Simpsons basically created modern humor- an impact only shared by Mark Twain’s Huckleberry Finn.

Plus, for all those who say FG because Simpsons hasn’t been so good lately, well, let’s see how Family Guy fares after fifteen seasons- although it most likely won’t last half that long.

The Simsons started to suck around ‘98, and have just gotten progressively worse. It’s not the same show. That having been said, the older Simspons were hysterical. Family Guy is just inane, lowbrow, and offensive. If you were to compile all the “funny” bits of Family Guy you would just barely be able to come up with enough material for one show. If you find it funny it says something about your prejudices.

But…Futurama is funny, I really hope they bring it back.

I’ve watched Family Guy and the Simpsons before and I can honestly say that the Simpsons has them beaten in every angle. Family Guy has no future, it will be thrown out like yesterdays garbage, the new season has two good episodes and the rest try too hard to be funny. The Simpsons makes better references to movies and the media, Family Guy relies too much on their characters staying popular when they just get predictable and boring. On Family Guy’s return they forgot how to make Stewey and Brian funny, Quagmire is funny and Peter is good at times, but the characters can not make up for the shitty construction of the episodes and Stewey trying to be funny by fighting Osama Bin Laden (that was not funny, really lame and stop repeating the joke we got it the first time…it’s not funny).

The Simpsons is a socially satirical comedy that has never lost its edge, while Family Guy is a semi-satirical comedy consisting mainly of inter-changable jests at the expense of others. Honestly, being a debater, I have to go with the Simpsons, because I’ve used any number of Simpson quotes in LD debates, but Family Guy doesn’t have the same edge; it’s more controversial than satirical, per se.

Looking at the commentary on both sides it seems to me that, grammatical speaking, the Simpsons fans are superior. That I find quite interesting. That isn’t to say that Family Guy fans are just as intelligent, don’t get me wrong, but majority of the Family Guy comments have to do solely with humor, whereas the Simpson ones seem to be more about the hit or miss comedy of the show, as opposed to the more obvious jokes of Family Guy. Don’t get me wrong, I watch Family Guy, but anyone who picks Family Guy over the Simpsons strictly for the fact that the humor is easier to understand has no business critiquing anything. That’s just my opinion, though.

I watch both, the difference is that the Simpsons twice a day, without fail, or else I tape it even though I own ever season that is currently out on DVD. I own two seasons of Family Guy, and if I miss it, I don’t really care because I know they’ll be replaying the same episode on TBS and Adult Swim at least 6 times within the month. Family Guy has been too overplayed and it’s viewers have lost interest, and, in an attempt to reverse that, it’s writers have become desperate and the jokes sloppy and haphazardly thrown together.
